The Atlantic Hurricane Seasons runs from June 1 to November 30 each year.
The Citadel's mission in the event of a hurricane that is expected to make landfall in or near the Charleston area is to take all actions necessary to prevent the loss of life and to minimize damage to property, equipment, utility systems, and facilities. In the aftermath of a storm, the college turns its attention to recovery operations and restoring essential services so the campus can return to normal operations.
The safety of our students, faculty and staff are of the utmost importance. Each summer members of The Citadel staff conduct hurricane drills so they are ready if a tropical storm or hurricane comes near. In addition the college has a detailed Hurricane Operations Plan outline our preparations and how we will communicate information to students, parents, faculty and staff and the greater Charleston community.
