Delayed opening Tues, 24 Feb/Inclement weather


The Citadel will open at 10:00 AM tomorrow morning, 24 Feb 2015, due to anticipated inclement weather.

·         Students, faculty, and staff travelling to campus are encouraged to put safety first and alert their supervisors as needed. 

·         Essential services will remain in place for cadets in the morning.


As per state regulations, and under the direction of the Governor, The Citadel follows the actions of the Charleston County Council related to delays and cancellations in the event of inclement weather.   
·         Please stay up to date by checking your Citadel email,  local news sources, the college’s Facebook and Twitter pages and .
·         You can also hear a recorded message on the Dawg Line at 1 (800) 868-3294 or 953-3294. Y 



Note: Employees must use leave or comp time, or plan to make up the time under the direction of their supervisors. The Governor may eventually issue a declaration, after the event, that the hazardous weather and emergency time off is excused for all state employees.

Winter is here, and while it does not happen frequently, we wanted to remind you about the process for weather related delays and closings impacting The Citadel campus:

·         As a state agency, The Citadel must follow the delay and closing determinations of Charleston County Government.

·         Once the decision has been made by the county council, notifications will be sent using the Bulldog Alert system in the form of text messages, emails and Citadel emails.

Multiple Citadel systems were unavailable earlier today (Friday 8/24) including e-mail, the Lesesne Gateway portal, Banner, the VPN, wireless networking, and the Citadel web site. As of 9:50 AM on Friday 8/24, many of these systems are back online. Citadel staff are working to correct remaining issues. In the future, refer to for outage information. . . . . . . . The Lesesne Gateway portal will be offline for scheduled maintenance from 12:15 to 12:45 pm on Friday 8/24.

The Atlantic Hurricane Seasons runs from June 1 to November 30 each year.

The Citadel's mission in the event of a hurricane that is expected to make landfall in or near the Charleston area is to take all actions necessary to prevent the loss of life and to minimize damage to property, equipment, utility systems, and facilities. In the aftermath of a storm, the college turns its attention to recovery operations and restoring essential services so the campus can return to normal operations.

The safety of our students, faculty and staff are of the utmost importance. Each summer members of The Citadel staff conduct hurricane drills so they are ready if a tropical storm or hurricane comes near. In addition the college has a detailed Hurricane Operations Plan outline our preparations and how we will communicate information to students, parents, faculty and staff and the greater Charleston community.

As part of our ongoing effort to provide the safest environment possible for our students, faculty, and staff, The Citadel's emergency notification system called BulldogAlert allows the college to communicate important information to our campus population.
